Overheard at work
At Xanga we have a rule that at least one other person must review your feature or product before it is released on the unsuspecting Xanga public. Here is one such feature review that occured at Xanga. In addition to paraphrasing slightly, since this is from memory, I’ll be using my co-worker’s fool-proof method of generating entirely fictional randomized names to protect the innocent, we’ll call the people involved … chris … christopher choi and … jo … joseph lee. Sweet. All people protected ^_^.
chris choi: ok, so when you come to xanga, you see this front page? if you’re someone new to the site, and you come here, its kinda hard to figure out what xanga is about. so on the new themed front page, you start out with this big blue getting started image – and then you just click on it – and it takes you to this registration page.
joe lee: i dunno chris, when I click on a pretty link and immediately get put on a registration page i kinda get pissed. its like when you go to a porn site – have you ever seen it when …
chris choi: …
joe lee: no no, just hear me out. so like when you’re on the front page of a porn site, and you’re trying to find something on the page, and it teases you in with this huge revealing picture, and it looks all hot, and then you click on the link and wham! it takes you to a registration page – MAN that makes me angry.
chris choi: …
joe lee: huh. actually… y’know most porn sites still have teaser content on the registration page, you see how the registration page is all empty? maybe you could put some images right down this side here or maybe you could use a splash page with a bigger image instead… here i think i have an example of one here …
chris choi: ….i think chris likes working with me too.
