Now: Unlimited Credits
It is official. As of yesterday I removed the limits on credit earning. Previously, after you’d acquired 1000 credits in your account (5000 for premium) you stopped earning credits for commenting until you’d spent those credits on a Mini. The purpose of these limits was to prevent people from hording credits. However, now that you can use credits to buy premium, starting at 4000 credits for one month, and 100,000 credits for Lifetime, those credit limits no longer make sense.
As a side note, this crazy fellow is trying to be the first to earn 100,000 credits and purchase lifetime. I think he’s trying to do it in less than a month. Leave him a comment if you get a chance, and help make his dream come true. ^_^
[edit: Not really unlimited. The limit is at 100,000 credits, until we come up with something more awesome than Lifetime]

I have a credit question. Oftentimes, my Xanga pals don’t update very often and yet I’m still commenting at their site. I’ve noticed once I comment on a post I get my 2 credits but if I comment again I don’t get more credits. What’s the deal? I feel like I should get credit for those comments.
@skanickadee - ah, you can only get credits for one comment per post. otherwise people might repost the same comment over and over, to drive up their credit counts?
@joseph - don’t be silly. no offense taken and i wouldn’t care if people did hate me – if people actually hated me based on one post !!! well, that’s just their own waste of time, energy and emotion, i wouldn’t really care. i mean, initially i was surprised that people didn’t get the joke, but i forget that the people who read my site generally have been doing so for so long, they “understand/know” me to the extent that they understand my intent and how i mean to come off (and sometimes don’t, simply because i’m distracted at work while posting). it’s no biggie. either way
i didn’t know i get credits for people commenting on my posts, i thought i get them for commenting on other people’s. cool!

me, it was very long and very painful. Credits are only awarded to you
the first time you comment on a post (and the first time someone
comments on your post)
There are several reasons you only get credits the first time you comment on a post.
We
are trying to create a
system that encourages people to make comments without spamming each
other. It is a huge challenge to define what makes something a “good”
comment that is worth rewarding. Its very hard for us to tell the
difference between Spam and “good” comments without reading every
single comment. Since Xanga gets upwards of 250,000 comments a day,
that’s impossible.
The best we can do is to approximate and to make things harder for people who might try to game the system.
1)
The first comment someone makes on a post is most likely to be
something meaningful. Each additional comment is less likely to relate
directly to the Weblog post and is more likely to slide into a
tangent.
2) If you could earn
credits for multiple comments on a single post, then some people might
just insert a bunch of crap onto a random post in order to get a lot of
credits. By limiting credits to once per post, it makes gaming the
system a lot harder, since you need to keep finding new posts.
3)
We want to encourage people to keep making new posts! So in a small
tiny way, we hope this will encourage you to encourage your friends to
post more. Posts are the fuel that keeps Xanga alive, so we want to
encourage behavior that encourages posting.
4) We don’t want
it to be too easy to earn credits. Otherwise they have no meaning.
That 1000 credit Mini only means something because you know it took
someone gave (or received) 500 comments in order to buy it for you.

Thanks again, Joseph. And to John….I LIKE that it doesn’t matter how many times a person comments and that you only get two credits for it (except for minis), or I think everyone would take advantage of the system.
I do also understand why you had it set up as you had…..the cap at 5,000 for P, and 1,000 for non p. It makes sense, because if everyone were doing it that way…hording them…it would defeat the prupose entirely–of the minis and credits. And also be more costly for you all.
I don’t save my “thingees” I use them….that is what makes xanga work as it does. My premium doesn’t run out until Aug., and I will purchase lifetime if you are still offering it then…hell….I’ll probobly do it sooner now, just because you guys have been so cool in the last month, with the badges, and the reply feature, and the universal inbox–which I LOVE so much, etc. Even the pulses have become so much more popular with the universal inbox……you should get a reply feature in there as well. I LOVE my universal inbox and how it directs me back to comments made to me on other sites…..before this….there were only a few of us, who always RYC’d right in our own comments….and people knew to check back……now everyone is doing it. I LOVE IT! This way we can RYC at our own place, and comment on the post only at the other sites. Fabulous!

well…sometimes, I just feel you are a bit snippy in our correspondance……a little more uptight than the others (xanga team) seem to be with me…..I think that I irritate you at times in my wording and things that I say with you…..but, that’s okay……I think I am growing on you now.

Oh! I’ve always wondered what credits were all about anyway. Xanga’s adding new features all the time. It’s very neat. I’ve been with you guys since 2003, albeit I keep shutting down old blogs and opening new ones, so it appears I’ve only been with Xanga a short time. Anyway, I love Xanga more than any other blogging/social site on the Internet, and believe me, I’ve tried lots. You guys are doing a fabulous job, even without all the features. I would like to thank you for all for the hard work you all are doing here on xanga… and I would also like to thank you for this site as well… I post on xanga concerning my health and the issues surrounding my health.. and the comments from others encourage me to do more… and therefore I post at least twice daily… thank you very much
I’ve been here for quite a while and I still haven’t broken the 1,000 limit. But now that’s out of the way, then that’s all the more reason to save my hard-earned credits.
On a side note, do you think its possible that one of these days, you guys could implement sound effects with minis? Like if you let your cursor hover over the mini, it would trigger a sound effect that corresponds to the animation. I think that would be really cool and would give an added value towards keeping minis.

In particular we need someone who is artistic, musical, and great with flash. If you’re interested, message Eugi about it – I think she’s trying to arrange a Xanga Minis contest.
@edudlooc13 - the pricing is 1000 credits per dollar. So if a premium plan costs $4, it can also be purchased using 4000 credits.

@foreverdrawn - ahh… but you’re not taking into account your 10 friend’s comments on your posts. You get credits for those comments too. The secret is keep making new friends, and getting those people to comment on your posts.

@xpureinn0cenc3 - if you just spam, it’ll still take you over 1000 hours of work to get premium. Its much more efficient to leave GOOD comments, so that they’ll comment on YOUR posts – which also gives you credits. ^_^

@HungLho - the goal is to give better comments. Good comments make people want to have more conversations with you. Which means they’ll comment on your site too!
Xanga gets better and better each day. Now most people will having something to work towards even though it might be a month of premium it is better than no premium

Are credits awarded for amount of comments or L E N G T H of comments? I possibly don’t leave as many comments as most folks because I write “letters” when responding to my readers and when leaving comments on the sites to which I subscribe. These letters can be quite long, as I sometimes respond to multiple entries with one comment.
I usually have over 3000 credits, and I give out minis liberally. (I’d give out more of the minis, but frankly, the selection is a bit anemic.)
I didn’t know we could actually “buy” premium with credits. Neat, but I’m already a lifetime subscriber. (I got LOTS of credits when I went lifetime.)
You guys are doing a great job. Can I use my Fishcan tracker with Themes yet?

@ccabcwoo - I dunno what rules you’re talking about, but as far as changing your screenname goes, go to “Account Info” and click on “Change Username”. Costs 10,000 credits (or $10).
@baldmike2004 - length is not a factor, but we ARE trying to encourage high quality comments, so kudos to you. Also, as a premium member, you should be able to put javascript into your custom module – so your tracker should work, I think? @Divine_Diva_in_NC - You shouldn’t feel bad. A large focus of the True movement is to have the True members help to build up the Xanga community, by helping new members. I LOVE this! I know I’ve had a few people question whether or not they could gift credits to others… I don’t know how to answer that question. Uh excuse me … er … call me silly but … when you leave minis to people, does it add up to their credits? I mean … when you put a comment on other’s blogs, it gives you 2 credits for your self right? But if you give a mini costing 5 credits, you’re deducted with 5 credits. Does that 5-credit add up to the person you just gave it to? Or it’s only for the minis with amounts like 100 eprops or something? … Ah … I guess I should go to FAQs section. LOL :ssgrin:

Oh! I have something to complain about….I knew I’d think of something.
I successfuly met the criteria of a survey on Monday (difficult to do it seems, because normally I do not), a survey on electronics…brands of electronics…..which then changed over to being particularly about an LG refrigerater (I didn’t realize LG made refrigeraters)….I got the thing at the end saying I completed it, and that I was entered in some drawing….blah, blah, blah…. got the xanga team message letting me know of the delay on the credits saying they come the next afternoon. THAT would have been YESTERDAY afternoon, and I didn’t get my credits yet. 
That bunny is so funny looking that it comes out ridiculously adorable… ^_^
hmmm… nice but i’ll never get there… ah well. you kids have fun! :sssmile:

I like your minis. I think they are funny and cute. I wrote a review of them a few days back. It’s tongue and cheek. Thanks for making them. They are easy to use and I don’t have to relearn anything. As for credit collecting. I give them too often to ever reach 100K!

Then what happens if say a user has to get 15,000 more credits to Lifetime. So they just purchase the credits through Xanga. Does that mean they would lose there other 5,000 credits if they purchased just using the $20. I guess I just think it would be nicer for the limit to be a little higher than 100,000 so there is flexibility when it comes to going over after purchasing credits for Lifetime.
and I do so hope that people do not start hording their credits…..those of us who can, should do things the old way. thanx for you
